2019 DC Golf Tournament: 25 Years of Success

Posted on May 13, 2019

Back in 1995, Coast Guard Foundation board members in the Washington, D.C. area hosted their first of many golf tournaments -- twenty-five to be precise--to raise funds for Coast Guard Foundation scholarships. That first tournament was organized by directors Brian Pemberton, retired Rear Admiral Ed Gilbert, and Herb Taylor, who all volunteered to kick-start the effort. A full field of 144 golfers signed up and $25,000 was raised at the inaugural event to support the Foundation’s dependent scholarship program.

By the close of this year’s May 6 event, which featured 92 golfers teeing off at the Fairfax Army Navy Country Club, another $90,000 had been raised, bringing the quarter century total to more than $2.3 million.
